There are numerous fisheries organizations and institutions in the world, each with its own website and information system, and it can be difficult to track what is going on. fishnews aims at centralizing information about fisheries meetings, news and websites. To do so, we gather information from a wide range of fisheries organization websites on a weekly basis.

The idea of fishnews was born from a first-hand experience of fisheries meeting planning: when you are trying to define dates for a meeting, it is extremely difficult not to choose a schedule that will overlap in some ways with another institution's meeting.

And because quite a number of people are involved in several RFMOs, this can lead to availability problems.

Of course, each RFMO offers a meeting calendar on their website, but then going through each website every time can be a strenuous task.

Hence the idea of having one central place that would gather the meetings schedules of all the majors RFMOs, as well as those of FAO's Fisheries Department, so as to ease the process.

And from that idea, we created fishnews.

Our aim with fishnews is to keep a list of all the RFMO's meetings (possibly extending the coverage to NGOs, National Institutions...) that would be updated at least on a weekly basis, so that people can go to the fishnews website and get the latest meeting schedules.

To maintain our centralized schedule, we gather the information from the various RFMOs websites and store it in our central meeting calendar.
